The Ohio State transfer QB is headed to The U.

After previously announcing a final three of Louisville, Miami and West Virginia, Ohio State transfer quarterback Tate Martell was scheduled to visit U of L on Wednesday.

It appears that visit is no longer necessary.

Martell is expected to request a waiver from the NCAA that would make him eligible to play this season. If that waiver is granted, he could be the Hurricanes’ starting quarterback when they host Louisville this fall.

Commonly referred to as one of the greatest high school quarterbacks of all-time, Martell signed with Ohio State after an undefeated prep career in which he led Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) to back-to-back national championships.

After redshirting in 2017, Martell served as the primary backup to Dwayne Haskins this past season. He played in six games for the Buckeyes, completing 23 of 28 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown, while also running 22 times for 128 yards and two scores. He elected to transfer after Georgia QB transfer Justin Fields chose to take his game to Columbus.

Another QB transfer target of Louisville’s, grad transfer Ben Hicks from SMU, committed to Arkansas earlier this week.
