One of the summer’s most interesting stories is no more.

Spike Albrecht, the former Michigan guard who went shot-for-shot with Luke Hancock in the 2013 national championship game, is no longer a member of the Louisville basketball coaching staff.
Former Cardinal point guard Christen Cunningham and former Xavier standout James Farr are now the only two graduate assistants on Chris Mack’s 2020-21 staff.
Louisville started with three graduate assistants & now has two. After joining the program in June, @SpikeAlbrecht is pursuing a basketball training business opportunity instead. It's all good; U of L's staff wishes him well. And he already has one master's degree (from Purdue).

Albrecht, who entered the 2013 title game averaging 1.8 points and 8.0 minutes per game in his freshman season at Michigan, exploded for four first half three-pointers and 17 points in the game’s first 20 minutes. He didn’t score in the second half, but his status as a March Madness legend was already solidified.

Albrecht never averaged more than 7.5 points per game for the Wolverines, and transferred to Purdue for his final season in 2016-17. He squared off against Louisville again that year, playing nine minutes and not scoring a point in a 71-64 Cardinal victory.
Just like in 2013, Albrecht’s relationship with Louisville got off to a hot start with a lot of national attention, and then fizzled to an end in the blink of an eye.
