When Duke makes double-digit 3 pointers they are tough to beat. When the Blue Devils make 71% of their three point attempts while making such a high number of three point shots, they're unstoppable. That is the buzzsaw the Virginia Tech Hokies ran into on Thursday night and how Duke managed to win 88-56. Seth Curry led Duke with 22 points, while Rasheed Sulaimon added 17 points, and Mason Plumlee finished with a modest 13 points to go with 12 rebounds. Erick Green continued his quest for a national scoring title with a hard earned 22 points in the loss.
Erick Green started to show some frustration after the 32 point loss.
"We didn't pay attention to the scouting reports," he said, speaking particularly of defending Duke's Seth Curry. "We're shooting through gaps instead of chasing Curry. It's crazy, man. We go over the same thing every single game, and it's just so frustrating. It boils down to paying attention."
Green went on to say that he believes in his teammates, but that the excuses have to stop. Green's frustration is only natural, and coming from a player who plays with the intensity and effort that Green does, you would think his teammates should take his criticism to heart.
For Duke, it was a nice bounceback win after the Maryland loss. Mason Plumlee returned to form for the most part, but the magical elixir of the 3 point shot will always cure all for Duke. How will the Blue Devils perform the next time they aren't shooting as well? That remains to be seen.
