A big bench effort from Jordan Nwora and monster second halves from Deng Adel and V.J. King carried Louisville to a 77-69 win over Boston College Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum Center.
The win moves the Cardinals to 5-1 in the ACC, matching the program’s best conference start since joining the league in 2014-15.
After carrying a 31-29 lead into the break at halftime, U of L spent much of the second half looking like it would roll easily to its fifth conference win. The Cardinals led by 18 points with just 2:47 to play before a remarkable flurry by Boston College — and some highly questionable decision making by the home team — resulted in U of L’s lead being just two points with 32 seconds to go. Thankfully, some clutch free-throw shooting by King and Ryan McMahon salted the win away in the closing moments.
A win is a win, especially in conference play, but you would have liked to have seen the Cards close things out on a bit of a better note this afternoon. If there’s a silver lining, at least none of them should have anything resembling an inflated ego heading into Wednesday’s very serious road test at Miami.
Despite the bizarre final two minutes, it’s pretty remarkable to step back and see that the same team that was humiliated at Rupp Arena right before the turn of the calendar is one made shot away from being 6-0 in the ACC. Props to everyone involved for sticking together and making this happen. Here’s hoping the fun is just getting started.
