Louisville shot an absurd 66.7 percent from the field and defeated North Carolina Central 87-58 Sunday night in a game where it felt like the Cardinals always possessed the ability to name the final score.
Led by Jordan Nwora, a total of seven Cardinals scored eight points or more. Nwora failed to reach the 20-point mark for the first time this season, but he still produced a game-high 17 points on 5-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Steven Enoch (15), Dwayne Sutton (12) and Darius Perry (11) joined Nwora in double figures. Perry also dished out seven assists and committed only one turnover.
Perhaps more encouraging than any individual statistic was the fact that as a team, Louisville assisted on 20 of its 30 made field goals. The Cards also got more valuable playing time for their youngsters, including Josh Nickelberry, who buried the first three-pointer of his young career.
If you didn’t like this game because you felt like Louisville got nothing out of it, then you’re really going to hate Wednesday night. The Cards will host a USC Upstate team that lost at NC Central by nine last Monday.
After that, however, things start to get interesting again. U of L will wrap up the Global Sports Shootout against a solid Akron squad, and then gear up for a two-week stretch that features neutral court games against Western Kentucky and Texas Tech, and home games against Michigan and Pitt.
