The Hokies are now 0-4 in the Mike Young era vs. Boston College. I blogged about this very issue last week. I mentioned that for growth, Virginia Tech needed to defeat Boston College, a team they were 0-3 against in the Mike Young era. After my heavy concerns – as I also mentioned this on the podcast with @MattZemek and @TalkinACCSports, @TalkinACCSports was also convinced enough that it was a question of the week for the ACC at-large.
I can’t answer the question as to why there is a lack of focus vs. Boston College. Credit Earl Grant’s Boston College team for a physical presence on the floor – and Virginia Tech really not adjusting to it until the 38th minute of the game, which helped the Hokies take the game to overtime.
I wish I could tell you I didn’t think this loss was coming tonight for Virginia Tech.
For 10 days you made it sound like Virginia Tech was playing at Kansas. This game scared the daylights out of you. Mike Young and Hokies should have shown the same the fear. Just a sloppy lackadaisical effort.

You would think Texas A&M would have attacked the non-con portion of the schedule with more urgency this season after missing the NCAAs because of a slow start last season.
You would think VT would have adjusted to the BC road trip and gotten it done this season.
Nope.
Nope. https://t.co/4vp8WMJI3J

Every time Virginia Tech has gone to BC, they are in a hypnosis chamber – and Mike Young is a hell of a coach – he has to get it figured out against BC

The Hokies biggest problem tonight was sloppy play – if you turn the ball over 14 times, you aren’t going to win many games.
And this loss will cost Virginia Tech.
Sloppy night of basketball from the #Hokies will cost them a seed or 2 in March. Q4 loss that should fortunately in Q3 but not great https://t.co/3SSRqG1pom

Here’s the thing that is frustrating about this loss – Virginia Tech had a chance to separate itself from the pack in the ACC – to be one of those teams you thought you know what you were going to get night in and night out. I can’t legitimately answer that question now. Don’t get me wrong – I still think Virginia Tech is an NCAA tournament team and will get back on track – but the lack of focus and urgency vs. Boston College is concerning to me. I think this game – I agree with @TechLunchPailD, will cost Virginia Tech a more favorable seed in the NCAA tournament.
Get back on track vs. Wake Forest.
