After an extended period since UNC's last commitment in basketball, power forward Luke Maye out of Cornelius Hough High School announced Tuesday morning he was committing to Roy Williams and North Carolina.

Maye is the son of former Tar Heel quarterback Mark Maye who suited up for UNC in the 1980s.
Maye measures out at 6-7, 225 pounds and is a three star power forward according to Scout. He entertained scholarship offers from Clemson, Charlotte, College of Charleston, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Tennessee among others. The number of offers indicate Maye is probably better than his ranking says. Maye has been touted as a versatile player with a great motor. In some respects he will likely draw comparisons to Jackson Simmons except with more versatility and a better shot. Roy Williams has a history of picking up an in-state players that end up as contributors despite being a tad under the radar. Justin Watts, Stilman White and the aforementioned Simmons fit this bill.

As for potential other 2015 commitments, UNC is still involved with several recruits. The problem facing Williams is this recruiting period is shaping up to be very similar to 2007 when UNC had a good depth at every position making it difficult for a recruit to see potential immediate playing time. It is entirely possible UNC returns the entire roster next season save for Simmons, Desmond Hubert and Luke Davis. Knowing that every starting and backup spot is filled with experienced talent makes UNC a tough choice. The dilemma for the Tar Heels is if there is a mass exodus to the NBA then not having snared a couple of elite players in the class of 2015 could make 2015-16 a bumpy ride. Then again, a mass exodus could be the result of a special 2014-15 season and perfectly understandable.
