After attending Larry Fedora's Freak Show two weeks ago, linebacker Jeremiah Gemmel has verbally committed to the Tar Heels for 2017. The three-star recruit out of East Coweta High School in Georgia also had offers from Louisville, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, and others, according to Tar Heel Illustrated.
Gemmel is the 13th player of the 2017 class to commit to UNC. Tar Heel Illustrated praises his intensity, quickness, and physicality. They also have some video of Gemmel from Freak Show that is definitely worth checking out.
247sports ranks Gemmel as the 63rd best outside linebacker in his class. ESPN.com notes that Gemmel possesses a "high motor" and "has the speed to play sideline to sideline." They also note that he will need to add some strength in order to keep up at the next level.
The Tar Heels are looking to build upon an 11-3 season that ended in a loss in the ACC Championship game to Clemson and a loss in the Russell Athletic Bowl to Baylor. Larry Fedora has been getting commitments from players who may normally choose to play their college football elsewhere, potentially thanks to the fact that UNC is now getting some respect on the football side.
