In somewhat of a surprise, John Wolford has been named the starting quarterback for the fourth year in the row.
As the depth chart was released for the first game of the season against Presbyterian College, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons had a bit of surprise but familiar name in the starting lineup, John Wolford.
Wolford apparently beat out Kendall Hinton with a surge in the last scrimmage to be named the starter. After starting 33 out of 35 games played, Wolford impressed Clawson enough to be named the starter, answering the coach’s plea to have someone step up.
Clawson however, still expects to see both quarterbacks play. With an experienced surrounding cast, the hope is that the offense can take a step forward.
Kendall Hinton on the other hand showed nothing but class when asked by the media about not starting the season as a starter.
"I feel John and I both had a great camp, so I'm sure it's a close decision," Hinton said Tuesday. "You've got to prepare each week as if you're going to play. You can't take it personally when you're not in the game. You encourage the man in front of you and prepare like you're going to start."
Good for both quarterbacks understanding and preparing as the starters. Great accomplishment for Wolford to have so many starts in an era of college football in which one misstep usually leads to a transfer. Look for the Deacs to be set at the quarterback position for 2017.
