Roy Williams getting a nice head start on the class of 2018 with the commitment of in-state point guard Rechon "Leaky" Black from Concord, NC.
Inside Carolina has the full details of the commitment.
Black had been to UNC for three visits, most recently on January 2nd when the Tar Heels faced Georgia Tech. According to Inside Carolina, Black actually committed then but waited until now to make an announcement. He revealed his college choice following Concord High's 74-65 win over Hickory Ridge.
As a sophomore, Black might still grow. At present he is listed 6-6 or 6-7 and 170-175 lbs. The 2018 rankings have yet to fully codify so there is some inconsistency. Scout has Black as the #6 point guard and the #1 player in North Carolina for the class of 2018. Rivals has him #15 overall while 247 Sports has Black #9 among point guards and #43 overall.
Since he still has two plus seasons of prep basketball left, Black has ample opportunity to improve on his game. It also gets the 2018 class off to a a great start. That class and the 2017 group will be the first two classes recruited without the NCAA cloud assuming the case gets wrapped up this spring. With Jalek Felton already on board for 2017 and now Black for 2018, Williams has the most important position take care of giving him a solid foundation to assemble the rest of both classes.
