Report indicates Syracuse to face Maryland at Barclays Center

The regular season schedule of the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team just got one step closer to being finalized as the program looks like it locked down another notable non-conference matchup.

Syracuse is finalizing an agreement to play the Maryland Terrapins at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. during the 2024-25 season, according to reporting from Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. It would be first time both teams will face off versus each other since 2017-2018 and the ninth all-time game between Syracuse and Maryland dating back to March 1972.

The Orange’s matchup versus Maryland is expected to be on December 21. Once agreed upon, it would also be the second time Syracuse will play in the Barclays Center next season. The Orange are already set to compete in Brooklyn for the 2024 Legends Classic in mid-November, where the program will play twice versus two of Texas, Texas Tech and Saint Joseph’s.

Both long-time programs will enter the 2024-25 season with head coaches hoping to take their teams back to prominence. Adrian Autry is looking to bring Syracuse back into the NCAA Tournament picture while Kevin Willard is hoping to bring some consistency to the Terrapins following a two-year, up-and-down stretch to start his tenure off.

Last season, Maryland finished 16-17 overall and 7-13 versus the Big Ten just a year after winning 22 games and advancing to the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Syracuse is 3-5 all-time versus Maryland dating back to the 1971-72 season, but the Orange have won three straight in the series — two of which were away from the Dome.

The Orange will be on the road for the ACC/SEC Challenge and are scheduled to host Georgetown in the Dome next winter. As always, we’ll be on the lookout for more schedule updates as Autry looks to finalize the full slate for 2024-25.
