UNC picked up a big commitment in its 2019 basketball recruiting class on Friday afternoon.

The North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program has their first commitment in the 2019 recruiting class.

Just 9 days after he received an offer from UNC, point guard Jeremiah Francis gave his verbal commitment to the program.

Francis confirmed his commitment to 270 Hoops prior to announcing it via Twitter on Friday afternoon.

Just three days after he got the scholarship offer from UNC, Francis listed the Tar Heels in his final 10. Now he makes it official.

The Pickerington, Ohio product is the No. 61 overall recruit in the 2019 composite rankings by 247 Sports and the No. 7 point guard in the class. He’s ranked as the best player in the state of Ohio and plays at the same high school as 2017 recruit Sterling Manley.

Francis chose the Tar Heels over Ohio State, Florida State, Indiana, Purdue, Missouri, Dayton, TCU and West Virginia.

Both of Francis’ parents attended Ohio State but in the end, he wanted to create his own legacy and do it in the ACC.

He was also the first guard UNC offered in the 2019 class after they received commitments from Rechon Black and Coby White in 2018.

Francis spoke to 270 Hoops about UNC and what he liked about the program. “Like I said before, it’s just UNC, they’re the defending national champions,” Francis said. “The coaching staff is great there.”

The point guard played with Manley at Pickerington Central for two seasons and will likely get another two with him at UNC.

With Francis giving his verbal, the Tar Heels are off to a nice start in the 2019 class. Williams and his staff have put out offers to a few top players, hoping to land a few more.
