ESPN published a list of potential 1000 yard receivers in the ACC. Two Tar Heels make the list.
4. Mack Hollins, North Carolina. If UNC is to build off last year’s Coastal division title, Hollins will likely take the next step after seasons with 745 (2015) and 613 (2014) receiving yards. He is now the go-to threat, too, after the departure of Quinshad Davis.
5. Ryan Switzer, North Carolina. Like Hollins, Switzer should see more opportunities come his way in his senior year at UNC. Known more for his exploits in the return game, Switzer has still done well as a receiver, amassing 697 yards last season and 757 the season before.
The issue is UNC has not had a 1000 yard receiver during the Larry Fedora era. Eric Ebron came close in 2013 with 973 yards. Outside of that Quinshad Davis in 2012, Ryan Switzer in 2014 and Mack Hollins in 2015 topped out at around 700 yards. In Fedora's offense the ball gets spread around and the nature of the offense, with short passes, doesn't lend itself to big gains.
The X factor in this discussion is Mitch Trubisky who is a far more accurate passer than Marquise Williams was during his tenure. Could more accurate passing result in better receiving production for Hollins and Switzer? It's possible but whether that's worth 300 more yards is debatable.
