5 Star Forward Shelton Henderson is a Blue Devil!

Jon Scheyer is at it again adding the 15th ranked prospect in the 2025 to the Blue Devils massive recruiting hall. Shelton Henderson committed to the Blue Devils over Louisville and his hometown school the Texas Longhorns. The 6’6, 220lb forward is a veritable Swiss Army knife that Jon Scheyer and staff are going to love.

Listed as a forward, Henderson is an athletic do-it-all player that can play and defend multiple positions. Henderson does a lot of the intangibles on the court. If I was giving a Duke player comp I would say he’s a mix between Justise Winslow and Wendell Moore. He has the versatility to affect the game at both ends with his IQ, and athleticism. He’s an excellent passer and throws a great outlet pass after securing defensive rebounds. He’s also shown an acuity for finding the open man even in confined spaces. He’s a chess piece that Coach Jon Scheyer can move around at varying positions and pair him with different lineups without missing a beat. While he may not be the crown jewel of the class he most certainly can he the adhesive that holds the jewel in place.

Where Henderson really catches my eye is slashing to the basket, with or without the ball. He’s excellent as a cutter and can finish there with power over defenders. He also has a good enough handle that he can take his man off the dribble and get to the rim.

Shelton on Shelton

From Prospectiveinsight.com

PI: How do you see your role at the next level?

Shelton Henderson: I think just a transition player, a spot-up shooter, guarding the best player, rebounding and crashing the glass, bringing that energy either off the bench or wherever they need me to come. So I just think that whatever they ask for me to do, I think I can bring it.

Scouts Take

Per Brandon Jenkins Recruiting Analyst for 247Sports:

Henderson is a physical specimen from the wing position who arguably has the best long-term tools in the national class. He operates as a playmaking forward who is loaded with intangibles that are off the charts. He boasts a man-child frame while possessing huge hands and long arms. Henderson has the build to overpower defenders on his attack and can draw fouls with ease when driving the basketball. He has a chance to be known for his two-way versatility. He has a tremendous feel for the game on the offensive end with clear shooting potential. Defensively, the ability to guard multiple positions on the floor is there. He has alert instincts and special timing as a rim protector who can pin shots on the glass with two hands. His upside is truly elite. He has made strides in imposing his will with an assertive style. His game is similar to a cross between Stephon Castle and Jarace Walker when factoring in his physical profile, feel for the game, and defensive versatility.

Henderson joins a class that includes the Cayden and Cameron Boozer, and Nik Khamenia. The Blue Devils may not yet be done as they are still courting the number 4 player in the class Nate Ament.
