A few notes on Duke signees and recruits at the Nike Hoops Summit:
Luke Kennard scored a team high 22 points for the US squad, shooting 9 of 18 and going 2 of 5 from 3 point range. Kennard also pulled down 5 rebounds and dished 2 assists. Kennard was the most steady of the US team and the shooting guard showed prowess from not only beyond the 3 point line but also the mid-range game, this is definitely a skill that will serve Luke well at the next level at Duke. Kennard may very well get time at the point next year with his ball-handling abilities and with his size and craftiness could do well in the rebounding category at Duke. Kennard’s shot is a think of beauty, it’s fun to watch and hits the basket like an arrow hitting its mark. Duke fans are going to love his craftiness and his ability to light it up from the outside. Not to be ignored is his ability to put the ball on the floor and drive.
Chase Jeter pulled down 5 rebounds and 5 points in the game but did show his ability to defend and run the floor, some will say that he didn’t have a very impressive outing but I will submit that Chase is still a very young player at only 17. Chase did show aggressiveness in calling for the ball but against a very athletic World team those inside points were hard to come by.
Brandon Ingram, who may be the last chance for Duke to sign a player for 2015, scored 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting. Ingram showed flashes of why he is one of the most sought after unsigned players in the class. Ingram has touch from range, mid-range and around the rim. Ingram handles well and even with a rail thin body is not afraid to post up a smaller player and use his height to his advantage.
