At his Tuesday afternoon press conference, Rick Pitino announced that senior center Mangok Mathiang and junior point guard Quentin Snider will be the captains of his 2016-17 Louisville basketball team.
"Mangok will be the core of the team," Pitino said. "Q will be the the quarterback of the team. He's come a long way, and both of these guys deserve this."
This will be the second straight season that Mathiang has served as one of the team captains. Last season, he was a tri-captain along with graduate transfers Trey Lewis and Damion Lee. Mathiang suffered a foot injury in Louisville's win over Western Kentucky on Dec. 19 and missed the rest of the season.
Snider had a terrific sophomore season in his first year as a full-time starter. The Ballard High product averaged 9.4 ppg, and dished out 109 assists to just 40 turnovers. He also led Louisville in 3-point shooting at 40.4 percent.
