The Blue Devils have secured a commitment from 5th year senior guard Jacob Grandison. The 6’6 guard rounds out the Blue Devil roster and gives the Blue Devils a proven shooter in the backcourt. Grandison also provides a level of toughness to a young roster in dire need.
Hailing from the Oakland area, Grandison played his first 2 years at Holy Cross before transferring to Illinois where he raised his level of play as he moved up a level in competition. An All-Academic selection this past season, Grandison started 23 games for Illinois and played in 30. He suffered a shoulder injury in March that limited his play for the rest of the season. In his 2 seasons at Illinois he averaged 4.6 and 9.6 points per game respectively and shot the ball at 41% clip. Paired with Jeremy Roach in the backcourt the Blue Devils boast one of the older guard tandems in the ACC. With the amount of youth first year Jon Scheyer has amassed in the lineup the addition of Grandison was a no-brainer.
Grandison could very easily slot in as a starter next to Jeremy Roach and Dariq Whitehead giving Duke a formidable set of guards with Jaylen Blakes, Jaden Schutt and Tyrese Proctor rounding out the guards. Grandison could also work in a super sixth man role bringing in a proven shooter used to defending at a college level. The addition of Grandison easily gives more options to first year coach Jon Scheyer and raises the ceiling of this Duke team. For Illinois Grandison played several positions including the small ball 4 spot which could be an enticing role for matching up against certain teams.
Grandison gives the Blue Devils a backcourt of:
- Jeremy Roach 6’2, 172lbs
- Jaylen Blakes 6’2, 208lbs
- Jacob Grandison 6’6, 205lbs
